Fine Bindings in Susan Dwight Bliss Collection

Bindings

Fine bindings are ones that feature highly skilled craftsmanship and exquisite materials.  Many such examples utilize leather and gold, and commonly feature raised bands, gilt edges, and decorative inlays. During the nineteenth century and early twentieth century, when the core of the Bliss Collection was formed, the finest binders were largely located in Europe.
