Manuscript collections and college records related to Bowdoin alumni who have served in political or government positions

Introduction

Special Collections & Archives holds many significant manuscript collections received from alumni who served in the executive, judicial, and legislative branches of government at the national and state level, including the papers of U.S. Senator George J. Mitchell, for whom the department is named. This guide details manuscript collections with substantial political components as well as college records and other materials related to significant political events. The bulk of the materials date from the late 18th to early 21st century.

About Us

The George J. Mitchell Department of Special Collections & Archives (SC&A) collects, preserves, and makes available unique rare books, manuscripts, historical College records, and increasingly, digital collections. Students, scholars, and all with an interest are invited to explore and learn from these world-class collections through their own research as well as our varied exhibits, instructional sessions, and public programs.
