Financial Aid packages at Bowdoin do not provide direct funding for purchasing textbooks. Students who receive financial aid at Bowdoin are asked to arrive on campus prepared with money to pay for indirect expenses like textbooks, but they are not always able to do so. Often the Office of the Dean of Students has already identified students who are in precarious financial positions to receive some of the scholarship money from eCampus for purchasing course materials. However, eCampus' donation of $1000 per semester is not enough to cover all situations and sometimes students do not know the cost of their textbooks before the semester begins. The Office of the Dean of Students provides a Supplemental and Emergency Funding opportunity to students whose textbooks total more than $420 for the semester. Faculty should relay any concerns about individual students to the student's Dean.
