Whether you will study in another country or at another U.S. college, the library is prepared to assist in your scholarly endeavors.
While in many cases you'll be able to use the library at your program’s affliated school, please know that you also may rely on many of the Bowdoin Library resources while you're away.
*How do I get research assistance?
You can reach us by email and get a response usually within 24 hours. Or when the reference desk is open you can chat online with us. All options are found on the Ask Us page. If you'd like specialized help in your academic area contact a subject librarian liaison.
If your research includes human subjects, please read the guidelines from Bowdoin's Institutional Review Board.
*Can I get articles?
You have access to pretty much all of the library's full text article databases and individual online journals. When you select a database or journal you'll be prompted to sign in with you Bowdoin username and password.
If the article you need is not available, or is only available in a Bowdoin print journal, you may request Bowdoin Digital Delivery. Articles may also be requested through Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
*Can I get books?
Sorry, no. At least not physical books. However, staff may be able to scan individual chapters from our collections or request a book chapter through Interlibrary Loan another library.
In addition, we have purchased a large number of e-books which you can access through Compass.
