Finding Resources in the Library

Books, videos, music and other resources can be borrowed from Bowdoin, Colby, Bates, and libraries in the Northeast and beyond.

Because of the cross-disciplinary nature of ethnomusicology you should be creative with your searches and try alternate terms and subject headings.  Some terms you may want to try:

Books
Often great resources can be found by browsing the shelves in the H-L or Music Library.  Books published before 2009 can be found in the Hubbard stacks, 1st floor; books published from 2009-2010 are available in the Music Library

Scores
Collections of scores of national and ethnic music can be found in the Music Library.
Browse: M1668-1846, these are arranged by country or region

 

Sound Recordings
CDs and LPs of ethnographic recordings can be found in the Music Library CD cabinets and LP shelves under the call numbers beginning with "Ethno" or "US-Ethno"
There are also large collections of online recordings available; these cannot be found in the catalog.
