On the results screen, there are two "Item Viewability" options. "Full View" is the default option. Consider choosing "All Items" under the following conditions:
Is it possible to view a volume that is "Limited (search-only)"?
Those using the Accessible Text Request Service may view these volumes. See the tab on this guide for more information.
Otherwise, it is not possible to view items labelled as "Limited (search-only)" because (1) [HathiTrust has] determined they are, or they are suspected to be, copyrighted, or (2) [HathiTrust does] not have enough information to make a copyright determination." More information.
Although you cannot view such items, you can try to find them in a "library or search in the text to find the frequency and page number of specific words and phrases. This can be especially useful to help you decide if the book is worth buying, checking out from a library, etc."
Can I download a whole book?
Yes, as a HathiTrust member, Bowdoin students, faculty, and staff "are able to download public domain works in their entirety as well as works made available in under Creative Commons licenses." Be sure to log in to HathiTrust to enable full download capabilities. More information.
