Statistical Data: 3. Agency or organization

Use these sources to find government agencies, an agency's statistical programs, non-governmental organizations, or private organizations that may produce statistics of interest.

• For federal agencies, use the Obama-era Principal Statistical Agencies and Recognized Units. Statistical Programs of the United States Government for 2017 and 2018 may also be of value.
• For state agencies, State Blue Books or similar publications often contain information about agency statistical activities. For Maine state agencies, try the list of agencies at State Agencies or Maine.gov DataShare.
• For foreign statistical agencies, use
  • the U.S. Census Bureau's list of National Statistical Offices (NSOs), or
  • the United Nations' list of National Statistical Offices, or
  • list of country statistical data services from UNData, or
  • Northwestern University Library's List of Foreign Governments, including legislative and executive branch institutions may also be useful.
• For intergovernmental organizations, start with the list of statistical programs of International Agencies from the UN. The list of International Organizations from Europa World or Northwestern University Library's List of IGOs may also be useful.
• For non-governmental organizations, try NGO Research Guide from Duke University Libraries.
• For other organizations, search the Internet using your favorite search engine.
